Many warehouses and industrial buildings are required to have UL-listed smoke and heat vents for fire-code compliance. We supply, install and retrofit them — and coordinate with your roofer.
A skylight that opens itself in a fire
A smoke hatch looks like an ordinary dome skylight and daylights the space the same way — until there's a fire. The cover is held shut by a fusible link: a small metal element calibrated to melt at a set temperature. When the air beneath the roof reaches it, the link parts and spring-loaded arms push the doors open on their own.
No power, no wiring, no signal from an alarm panel. That matters, because a fire is exactly the moment those systems may already be down. Once open, the vent lets smoke and heat escape upward — clearing the air for people getting out and for firefighters coming in, and helping keep heat from building to the point where it damages the structure.

A rooftop dome captures daylight and a highly reflective tube carries it down into the building — no structural opening over every workspace, and no heat or glare problem to solve afterwards. How it lands depends on what your ceiling looks like.
Commercial — offices and suspended ceilings
In office space the tube runs above the ceiling grid and finishes at a flush diffuser that reads like a light fixture. Because the run is concealed, daylight reaches interior rooms and corridors that have no roof access of their own — conference rooms, break rooms, back-of-house — without touching the finished ceiling anywhere else.
Angled tube sections let a run step around ducts, beams and sprinkler lines, so the diffuser lands where the room wants light rather than wherever the roof allows.
Warehouse & industrial — open ceilings and high bays
Tilt-up warehouses and manufacturing space are the opposite problem: an open ceiling, exposed structure, and thirty feet or more between the roof and the floor. Here the unit is left exposed and aimed to throw light down across the aisles, so racking and equipment don't leave the floor in shadow.
Daylight covers the operating hours that cost the most to light, and because output follows the sun, the brightest part of the day needs the least electricity.

Installed, the diffusers sit flush and the light reads as daylight rather than as a fixture — even, shadow-free, and changing through the day the way people expect natural light to.

Can skylights help my building meet California Title 24 daylighting requirements?
Yes. We design Title 24 daylighting layouts that use skylights and tubular daylighting devices to bring natural light into the building. Proper skylight coverage helps large enclosed spaces satisfy California's Title 24 daylighting provisions while reducing daytime electric lighting use. We'll plan a layout suited to your roof and floor area.
Can you retrofit skylights or smoke vents on an existing warehouse roof?
Yes. We handle retrofit installations and coordinate with re-roofing projects so skylights, daylighting devices and smoke vents are integrated correctly with the new or existing roof system. Combining a skylight upgrade with a re-roof is often the most cost-effective time to add daylighting and ventilation.
